Memorial Biography

Michael D. Reilly, age 73 of Hudson, Ohio, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022 of complications from sepsis on the day before his 74th birthday. He grew up in Greenwich, CT and went to Fairfield Prep. He met his wife Kathleen Canning in Greenwich, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2021. He studied History at the College of the Holy Cross. He also played football there and was recruited by the NFL, but he chose not to play professionally. He moved to Hudson in 1977. He held an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Columbia University and was the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a number of successful companies. Mike was a renown visionary businessman. His talent was sought after by numerous consumer product companies like General Electric, Bloomer Candy Company, Selfix Home Products, The Genie Company, and Universal Electronics. He then started his own consulting firm, MD Reilly Associates, where he provided the strategic and tactical leadership to accelerate growth and profitability for numerous organizations. Establishing business vision and transitioning company objectives into measurable results were his primary areas of expertise. Colleagues described him as a high energy, performance driven leader with decisive business judgment who consistently delivered results. Throughout his career he was the inspiration for many new products in the hardware, housewares, electronics and confectionary industries. Known as “Big Mike” or “Reils” by his close friends, he had a reputation for his generosity, charisma, big heartedness, and sense of humor. He was an avid reader and an animal lover, as well as a sports fan. He was a wonderful and devoted father who always encouraged his children to follow their dreams. His presence will be sorely missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (nee Canning); his children Kara, Sean, and Conor, his daughter in law, Alexandra, his grandson Cameron, his brother Jim Reilly, and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents Felicia and Jim and his brother Tom. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Mike's memory to St Mary’s Church in Hudson.
